World Cup Memories

I am guessing lots of other bloggers will be posting articles related to the FIFA World Cup, and for that very reason I didn't want to post one myself. But anyway, I decided to write about the first thing that came to my mind when I was thinking of the World Cup in 2002, the one in Korea.

Well, it was the one with the CYBERGS. I watched some of the matches at Chicku's place, with the gang, the gang being Merls, Seema, Angela, Abid, Chicku, Sanil, Thaj, Derwi and occasionally Riaz. And I watched the finals at my neighbor, Sandhya's place.

Yeah, I don't have too many memories associated with world cup or football.

@anonymous a.k.a Nids

I refuse to accept the accusation of a game the world has voluntarily decided to place in a different pedestal.

Scientifically, the most difficult part of the body to accurately tame or control is the foot. It is very difficult to be dexterous in terms of your feet. And there in lie its beauty. The basic human instinct to conquer Troy.

Unlike many other sports, every race, every human being can compete without having a distinct advantage or a disadvantage. Add simple rules to the game, and consequentially the global appeal to the game.

Now if you meant dumb as in terms of non-use of the grey matter, it would be quite evident that you have not played a competetive game of football, ever. Decisions are made on the run where you do not have a clock to time how much time it takes to think what to do next. It's like speed chess players given a combination of adrenaline and red-bull.

Coming back from Munich a day after the inaugaration, I deduce there must be lot of dumb people around in the world which eventually leads me to believe this is a dumb world and i without doubt is an integral part of it.

Please excuse the length and the misleading seriousness of this post, for it is diffilcult for me to digest the fact that my entire childhood,holdiays and my unflinching passion has been wasted on something as dumb as football.

Now isn't that amusing.

My dear friend Nijaz, don't get all hyper. 'Nids' a.k.a Nidha is a 'he' (yes, a guy with a girl's name). Nidhi was the football captain of our school in '98 (the year with the 'un dos thres' World Cup song). And under his captaincy, we had won a lot of games, though my memory fails recollecting any tourney wins.

You see, Nidhi was simply pulling my leg.

Moreover, when I said that I didn't have too many memories relating to football, I actually meant World Cup memories. Mentioning school and football together brings back a lot of memories, coz thats when I first really started following the game, you know off-side, defender, striker, fouls, spiked boots, etc.
